Onkyo HF Player - Hi-Res Music App Reviews

I love this app, but there is a new bug

Love this app but there have been bugs while trying to use it via Bluetooth in the car. The latest one is that it plays tracks a little too slowly. Like playing a 45rpm record on 33rpm speed. I would guess tracks are being played 5% too slow from my iPhone 6s Plus. If I kill the app and re-launch it will play correct speed, but the next time Im in the car it plays tracks too slowly again.

Skips When I Pause & Resume

Ever Since I Updated My Iphone To ios 10 This Player Has Had A Bug Where If I Pause A Song, Then Resume, It Will Skip To The Next Track Or Double Skip Over. This Is Annoying To The Fact That I Have Tried Over 30 Different FREE Music Apps, But This Has The Best Soun Quality, ( For Being Free ) Since The Update I Thought This Would Fix This Bug, Nope.... IDK If Any1 Is Having This Issue, But Its An Annoying Bug.

Unique App worth a try.

Immediately interesting. Nice delivery of various eq options to enhance various sound aspects and broaden, restrict or tighten sound in ways that reflect particular styles of famous artists music. Suggestion: Mark selections of eq with changed color or something, since folks arent inclined to memorize all the wording in style descriptions and so when they return to the eq interface they can see which one they selected. I recommend this app.

Awesome flac player

Awesome flac player

Bugs keep this app from being THE audio player

Like the reviewers before have mentioned, this apps is a killer app that is plagued by bugs/glitches that frustratingly interfere with basic and important phone functions. Please fix these issues so this app gets the 5 stars it should deserve.

Cannot create playlist, long time no update

This app is rarely updated, cannot create playlist. So disappointed to pay 10$ for this.

Excellent sound for lossless, please fix bug in iOS 10

This app makes all of my lossless music sound significantly better than the built-in Apple music player. Its warmer, deeper, clearer, more fluid and has better stereo separation. The excellent EQ is a really nice bonus for the few albums that need a little help. When you touch the album art, the full album artwork shows unobstructed from any controls and isnt at the top so the time and battery info, etc. isnt in the way either. The layout is great and the color scheme is easier on the eyes. The volume slider is fortunately smooth and not in incremental steps. It can sort by artist, then album. My only wish is if it could sort an artists albums by date. My albums are tagged with the date and the dates show in the Apple app but they show blank in this apps info section. A minor detail. Im extremely happy with this app and love it. All of the bugs I mentioned previously were all fixed, thank you!

Totally unusable

Onkyo created the best app for playing high resolution music and has now made it totally unusable to play anything. When playing music on my iPhone 6s, HF Player automatically defaults to 48 khz playback, meaning that if you try to play 44.1 khz music on it, the playback is slowed down and sounds terrible. In previous versions, you could close the app on the phone and then re-start the app to play native 44.1 khz content, but you cannot with this latest update on December 26. The app will only play at 48 khz, regardless of what setting the upsampling mode is on or sampling rate of the file. This is a critical error and has made the app completely unusable for any purpose. Onkyo needs to fix this problem immediately to restore functionality to the app and allow users to play music at the sample rate on which it was intended.

Awesome sound

I use the app with my Audioquest Firefly Red and AKG K3003i in ear monitors. The combination of the three gives simply stunning sound from an iPhone. I am listening to a lot of old music all over again and hearing details that Ive never heard before. Obviously the right hardware plays a role in this but the app enables the true bit perfect playback to get the most out of the hardware.

Excellent, but please update for iOS 10

12/30/16: All my Bluetooth problems have been solved with this latest release, and everything is working beautifully. Thanks, Onkyo! 11/16/16: HF Player has become even buggier for me after the iOS 10 app update. Not only has the problem when switching outputs not been solved, but now if I have the app open and paused and then switch to a Bluetooth output, tracks play back at a reduced speed. Closing and reopening the app is the only way to stop this, which is not Particularly safe when Im driving. Other apps I have do not do this, so I believe this is an HF Player problem. Workarounds such as turning off handoff and deleting and then repairing my phone with my car and my headphones have also proved unsuccessful. I love this app, but please help, Onkyo! -------------------- Advances tracks when I switch between outputs (Bluetooth headphones to car Bluetooth, for example) or pause playback, watch a video in Safari, then restart HF Player playback. This has only happened since I upgraded to iOS 10. Please fix, Onkyo!

ONKYO RULZ!

My music sounds/performs flawlessly. Love everything about this player/app. The user interface is very good & the EQ is excellent. Thanks ONKYO for making my audio experience a great one.

Freeze after every song

When the phone display is on sleep, the app will freezes after every song if I am playing Hi-Res audio.

Game Changer!

This is by far the best $10 I have ever spent. Its an absolute "game changer" to have a portable solution to upconvert my 44.1khz flac collection to a 5.6mhz dop dsd. This app combined with my iPhone 7 plus and chord mojo is a strong competitor for any dap on the market and will be my portable audio solution for a longtime to come. Thank you for making such a phenomenal product and thank you chord mojos manual for sending me here!

An excellent DAP app in need of a facelift

Ive auditioned quite a few player apps as my primary headphone listening source is my iPhone paired with a Cozoy Astrapi DAC, and this app offers the best balance of excellent sound, robust EQ (waveform playing behind it helps pinpoint frequency areas in tracks) with ability to save/name, a very familiar/straight-forward interface, and plenty of output options. The one thing that would make this app perfect would be a aesthetic upgrade as this app still uses a pre-6/6S/7 resolution and an overall very dated look. Definitely not something that keeps me from using the app, however, I feel like I would appreciate it more if it looked a bit more up-to-date (not to mention appealing to more potential users given the slick-looking competition.)

The ugly duckling that could.

Using it with Audioquest Dragonfly black 1.5. Plays 24/96 flac perfectly. The UX is very dated, but it works perfectly fine. Would give 5 stars if it can import from a usb drive attached via the camera connection kit.

Great app, please update

I paid for the HD player functionality then realized that there is no iPad (Pro) version!!! So Ill have to pay for another solution to get a hi res flac player for that.... :( Three stars for now, five when you update the basic GUI and make an iPad version... Thanks!

Best music player with equalizer

Ive really enjoyed using this music app over the past month. I havent had any problems with it at all. The eq functionality is truly the best of any music app Ive tried so far.

iTunes no longer supports. Waste of $$$

Do not buy the HD option. iTunes no longer appears to offer the functionality it requires in order to work. Such a disappointment.
